Akitoshi Igarashi who is the one of the leading Alto Sax players in Japan
was born in Hatchobori, downtown Tokyo in 1932.
He started to play jazz at the age of 16 and at 20 he joined "Shungo
Sawada's Double Beats Five" (Be-bop Band). He earned the fame of being
a modern jazz player then. In 1957 he joined "Kohnosuke Saijo's West
Liners" and had been performing cool jazz with them. For about 20
years since 1960 he had been a concertmaster of some big bands such as
"The Sharps and Flats" "The Blue Coats" and "Shigenori
Obara and his Joyful Orchestra"
He is now organizing his own band "The Bunrakutei" with his brother Taketoshi Igarashi (drums), and active performing at various arenas. Regarding to his mature, characteristic and beautiful tone together with his sophisticated technique of rich expression, a lot of his fans call him "One and Only player" His repertries range from Swing, Mainstream and Modern jazz to Cocktail music and Dream dancing.
Akitoshi Igarashi now reaches the 60th Anniversary of his music life, his
performance is expected and well received by not only Japanese jazz
fans but also fans in the world.
